1. POLICE DENY CLAIMS THOUSANDS SERVE IN CIVILIAN ROLES AS COURT BANS DUAL ROLES

Indonesia’s National Police (Polri) on Monday said only about 300 active officers are serving in civilian managerial posts, rejecting claims that thousands of police personnel occupy such roles.

The government and the House of Representatives look set to pass the Criminal Law Procedures Code (KUHAP) bill into law soon, prompting concerns from civil society groups about its contentious articles and rushed deliberations that allegedly skirted public participation.
