GUM-GUM PH CANDIDATE VOWS TO ADDRESS WATER, ROAD AND ELECTRICITY ISSUES

Published : 18/11/2025 02:10 PM

SANDAKAN, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- Water supply, roads and electricity will be the main focus of PKR candidate Abdul Said Pimping in his bid for the Gum-Gum state seat in the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election.

Abdul Said, 53, said that as a candidate representing Pakatan Harapan (PH), the ruling coalition at the federal level, he intends to leverage his strong ties with the federal government to address these issues in a comprehensive manner.

“I would like to affirm my commitment and priority to continue fighting for solutions to the issues of water, roads and electricity if given the mandate by the people.

“I will formulate both short- and long-term plans to ensure these three major issues, which have persisted for far too long, can be resolved promptly,” he told Bernama.

Meanwhile, during his campaign in Pulau Libaran, Abdul Said said he would also work to ensure that residents on the island, who still rely on water from wells, gain access to clean and reliable water supply.

“The water from the wells on the island is mixed with salt water, making it difficult for residents to use it for cooking. So, if given the mandate, my main focus will be to improve basic infrastructure, including the water supply on Pulau Libaran.

“The residents here hope that we (PH) can protect their interests and address the long-standing issues of water supply, roads and electricity,” he said during the Wayang Pacak programme yesterday.

Abdul Said, who is also the PKR Libaran branch chief, added that he is committed to continuing existing development projects in the Gum-Gum constituency, provided they bring tangible benefits to the people.

“If the plans introduced by previous leaders are suitable and beneficial to the people, such projects should be continued - and improved where possible,” he said.

He added that elected representatives should not halt or cancel projects simply due to political differences with the previous government.

“When we become elected representatives, we should not halt or cancel plans that benefit the people simply because we disagree with the previous government. Such situations should not occur.

“I will review these projects at the relevant departmental or agency level to ensure that development efforts in the Gum-Gum constituency are not interrupted, so that this area is not left behind in the broader development agenda,” he said.

Abdul Said said most residents in Gum-Gum are farmers, smallholders and fishermen who rely heavily on government assistance and incentives. He assured that the aid and support provided by the government will also be channelled to constituents in Gum-Gum.

The Election Commission (EC) has set early voting for the state polls on Nov 25, with polling day scheduled for Nov 29.
