BN MACHINERY MUST WORK HARD IN SABAH STATE ELECTION - MOHAMAD

Published : 18/11/2025 05:51 PM

MEMBAKUT, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional’s (BN) election machinery must work even harder in the 17th Sabah State Election, as the coalition is contesting as an underdog, said BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

He also urged the machinery to step up its efforts to withstand the strength of other parties, reminding them not to feel intimidated, as even strong parties, which he described as ‘giants’, are not invincible forever.

“We must act like termites - we chip away little by little until the ‘giants’ fall,” he told reporters after meeting BN’s party machinery at the Binsulok district polling centre (PDM), in the Membakut constituency, near here, today.

Mohamad described the upcoming state poll as highly important, as it will determine the future of the state. He said that Sabahans must use this election to establish a stable government, capable of attracting more investment to the state, which is rich in natural resources.

“When Sabah has a strong and stable government, investor confidence will return. No investor will bring investment into a country or state with an unstable government,” he said.

Mohamad, who is also the Foreign Minister, said Sabahans need to give their mandate to a party which has proven its ability to govern, has a strong track record in managing the state, and is aligned with the federal government.

“Let us not be swayed by sweet promises… in the end, promises are just promises,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mohamad said that BN would launch its manifesto for the Sabah state election on Nov 22, with the event to be officiated by UMNO president and BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

On BN’s prospects in Membakut, Mohamad said he was confident that the coalition would be able to recapture the seat in this election.

In this state election, BN’s candidate for the Membakut seat, Rusman Dulamit, is facing a 10-cornered clash, which includes the incumbent Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

In the 16th State Election, Mohd Arifin won the Membakut seat with a majority of 3,421 votes.
