DAANIA WINS THREE TITLES AT ITF J30 PHNOM PENH TENNIS TOUR

PHNOM PENH, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysian junior player Daania Daniella Hazli sent a strong signal to her opponents ahead of the 33rd SEA Games after winning three titles at the Under-18 J30 Phnom Penh ITF (International Tennis Federation) World Tennis Tour.  

Daania secured her latest title on Saturday after partnering Singapore’s Chanya Ng Kai Ning to defeat Yang Zican (China)-Park Ha-an (South Korea) 6-1, 6-3 in the doubles competition at the Morodok Tennis Centre in the capital.

Yesterday, she knocked out China’s Zijie Yang 6-1, 6-3 to clinch the girls’ singles final, while on Nov 15, defeated Singapore’s Chanya Ng Kai Ning 7-6 (9), 6-0 to win the Tep Kunnah Memorial Cup singles title.

“Most importantly, her fitness has been consistent throughout the week and she still managed to play with a swollen ankle and a slight knee injury. Her performance has been consistent,” her father and coach Abdul Hazli Zainuddin told Bernama today.

The recent win in Cambodia gives Daania her second ITF junior doubles title. She won her maiden doubles title in Jakarta in October. 

Her two singles victories at the J30 Phnom Penh were her third Under-18 ITF junior title this year, having claimed the singles J30 Surabaya title in August. 

The J30 Phnom Penh tournament started on Nov 7 and ended today.

The 15-year-old player will now be preparing for the SEA Games that will be held from December 9 to 20 in Thailand.

“It will be her debut. I don’t have a big plan, but she could create some surprises in her current fine form,” said Hazli Zainuddin.
