PUTRAJAYA, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysian pilgrim Asmah Mansor, 71, who has been receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Saudi German Hospital in Makkah since Sept 13, is expected to arrive in Malaysia tonight.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said that through the repatriation effort coordinated by Tabung Haji, Asmah’s arrival tonight is subject to final coordination involving flight arrangements, documentation and health clearance.
“It (final coordination) involves the relevant authorities, including authorised agencies in Saudi Arabia. May all these arrangements proceed smoothly to ensure her arrival home.
“I call on all Malaysians to continue praying that this mission is eased in all aspects,” he said in a statement today.
On behalf of the government, he expressed his deepest appreciation to all Malaysians for their concern, support and contributions, including monetary donations, extended to help Asmah’s family.
"The concern shown by the people reflects a commendable spirit of brotherhood and compassion among the community. I also congratulate Tabung Haji and the Saudi Arabian government for their close cooperation and commitment in making this mission a success,” he added.
Earlier, Mohd Na’im said the mission to bring back Asmah, who has been receiving treatment for pneumonia in the ICU, was initiated after sufficient funds were collected to cover the estimated cost of RM500,000.
