KOTA KINABALU, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) manifesto for the 17th Sabah State Election is not merely a list of promises but represents a commitment to sustain the momentum of achievements made in the past five years.
GRS deputy secretary-general Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the party's manifesto was formulated based on the foundations established during the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 1.0 roadmap from 2021 to 2025.
“Unlike the offers by other parties, we do not promise the moon and the stars that are beyond reach,” he told Bernama.
Armizan, the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, said the GRS manifesto also takes into account the government's ability to implement the proposed strategies, policies, and programmes, especially those tied to the state government's financial strength.
He said it would be inappropriate to present enticing promises that cannot be seen, felt, implemented, or measured within a five-year administrative term.
“A manifesto is a pledge of accountability, not just sweet talk to win votes. If we continue with the habit of offering unrealistic promises, the people of Sabah will remain disappointed, and their trust in governmental and democratic institutions will continue to deteriorate,” he said.
GRS Chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also the Sabah Chief Minister, launched the party's manifesto on Nov 17, driven by four core pillars: Sabah First, Sabah Forward, Sabah Prosper and Sabah United.
These four pillars will, in turn, be translated into action via 16 strategies, covering a wide range of development agendas across the economic, infrastructure, security, education, human capital development, environmental sustainability, and public well-being sectors, including Sabah's constitutional rights.
Polling day for the Sabah polls is this Saturday, while early voting took place today.
