PUTRAJAYA, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- The National Governance Committee (JTK)’s regular monitoring has cut the backlog of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) reports from 2023 and earlier by 83 per cent, down from 540 cases previously lodged.
Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said 163 of 245 reports for 2024 (67 per cent) and nine of 121 reports for 2025 (eight per cent) had been successfully resolved.
“This achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of JTK as a platform for monitoring and resolving governance issues in a focused and efficient manner,” he said in a statement after chairing the JTK meeting here today.
The meeting was also attended by Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki and Auditor-General Datuk Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi.
Shamsul Azri also attributed the achievement to the implementation of the Demerit Performance Evaluation System (DEEP), which makes resolving MACC reports one of the criteria for assessing the performance of ministries, departments and agencies.
“Improvement efforts must be implemented consistently, including a proposal that ministries or agencies failing to implement governance improvements within 12 months be given additional demerits to ensure swift action,” he said.
Shamsul Azri also recommended that the MACC lead a special task force to strengthen control over the importation of plastic waste into the country, which would involve multiple ministries and agencies.
“This is in line with efforts to enhance integrity and compliance with regulations related to waste management,” he said.
Meanwhile, Shamsul Azri said International Anti-Corruption Day will be celebrated on Dec 5, carrying the theme “Bersama Perkhidmatan Awam MADANI Memerangi Rasuah: Membentuk Integriti Masa Hadapan”.
“This year’s celebration is expected to draw more than 2,000 participants and will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC),” he said.
