PUTRAJAYA, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- All forms of aid and donations for disaster victims need to be coordinated beforehand to ensure they are suitable with the needs and adequate for evacuees housed at relief centres, the Social Welfare Department (JKM) said.
The department said that this was vital to avoid any surplus, wastage and overlap of aid items and damage to unused items, adding that it appreciated public concern and those who always provided aid when disasters happen in the country.
“As such, there are three channels for donations for disaster victims - the disaster operations control centre, the JKM headquarters, state headquarters or district office, and the relief centres.
“Donors can also refer to infobencanaJKM at https://infobencanajkmv2.jkm.gov.my to obtain information on the status of relief centres and the number of evacuees,” the department said in a statement, adding that further information on donations could be obtained by contacting the department’s operations room.
For donors in Perlis, they can contact the operations room at 04-9708160, Kedah 04-7001700, Penang 04-6505258/9, Perak 05-2545505, Selangor 03-55455598, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur 03-4010400, Negeri Sembilan 06-7659332, Melaka 06-2324670, Johor 07-2330399, Pahang 09-5650284, Terengganu 09-6274262, Kelantan 09-7416925, Sabah 088-255133, Sarawak 082-374888 and Labuan 087-424961.
