KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has extended his condolences to the family and friends of Astro Awani’s Perlis correspondent, Mohamad Asri Shafii, who passed away early this morning.
Fahmi said he was deeply saddened by the news, noting that Mohamad Asri had just yesterday delivered a live report from Kedah on the evacuation of Malaysians stranded by floods in Hatyai, Thailand.
“My condolences to all his family members and friends. May they be granted strength and patience during this difficult time.
“Let us pray that his soul is blessed and placed among the righteous. Al-Fatihah,” he wrote on social media.
According to Astro Awani, Mohamad Asri, 49, died early this morning, believed to be due to a heart attack, while travelling home after covering the flood evacuation operations in Hatyai.
Mohamad Asri previously served as a journalist with Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) before joining Astro Awani in Perlis.
He is survived by his wife and six children.
