JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Johor branch has issued compound notices amounting to RM676,250 against traders found to have committed various offences as of Nov 24.

Its director, Lilis Saslinda Pornomo, said this involved 1,671 cases recorded since the beginning of the year under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, and 442 cases under the Weights and Measures Act 1972.

“According to the breakdown, compounds under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 amounted to RM561,050, while the Weights and Measures Act 1972 cases accounted for RM115,200,” she said at a press conference after launching the state-level Pasar Patuh (3P) programme at the Taman Perling public market here today.

She said the offences included failure to display price tags and the use of unverified weighing instruments for business purposes.

The data reflects her department’s continued commitment to monitoring and ensuring compliance among traders throughout the state.

Therefore, she advised traders to always comply with the law, noting that doing so is not only an obligation but also a long-term investment in building consumer trust.

Meanwhile, when asked about measures to ensure sufficient food supply in Johor during the Northeast Monsoon, she said continuous engagement with various parties, including suppliers, is being conducted to safeguard supply.

She said the ministry had also recently instructed suppliers to maintain a 30 per cent stockpile of food supplies in preparation for the monsoon.

“We always ensure that essential and controlled goods are not disrupted in the market. Therefore, the public is advised to use available information channels if there is any shortage in their area during the monsoon,” she said.
