BUKIT MERTAJAM, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- Bukit Mertajam Member of Parliament Steven Sim has allocated RM207,000 to enhance digital learning facilities and essential amenities at the 61-year-old Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bukit Mertajam.

The allocation includes RM107,000 contributed last year for the Digital STEM Classroom Phase 1 (Smartboard) project, and the installation of air-conditioning units, while this year’s funds will support the continuation of the Digital STEM Classroom Phase 2 (Smartboard) project.

Sim, who is also the Human Resources Minister, has also committed an additional RM200,000 for the purchase of more smartboards, to equip all classrooms at SMK Bukit Mertajam with the technology.

“What I gave today is not much, but I hope this contribution can serve as a catalyst. I encourage SMK Bukit Mertajam alumni to also give back, because education is the most important investment for the next generation,” he said in a statement, today.

The handover took place at an informal ceremony, recently, attended by principal Saniza Matt Lazim and parent-teacher association (PTA) president, S. Sivaji Arumugam, who also submitted several additional allocation requests.

SMK Bukit Mertajam currently has 967 students and 79 staff.
