KUALA LUMPUR, 26 Nov (Bernama) -- Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), together with the Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (TERAJU) is strengthening their strategic partnership through the TNB Bumiputera Vendor Development (PV 3.0) programme to support the government’s agenda to improve the Bumiputera economy and in line with the national energy transition policy.
TERAJU said the initiative not only provides procurement opportunities, but acts as a catalyst to transform Bumiputera vendors to penetrate the energy industry supply chain and green technology, and to ensure they are competitive at the global level.
“PV 3.0 not only opens up new business opportunities, but provides a strategic route to Bumiputera vendors to expand and compete in the energy industry and green technology,” the unit said in a statement, adding that over 3,600 Bumiputera vendors are active in TNB’s procurement ecosystem.
Under PV 3.0, TNB aims to channel 55 per cent of its procurement expenditure to Bumiputera vendors by 2030, compared to 47.8 per cent in the 2024 financial year, and aims to appoint over 1,700 Bumiputera vendors as a way to encourage participation of local vendors.
PV 3.0, launched in 2024, is a continuation of TNB's efforts since 1994, but has improved with an emphasis on three main thrusts - business market opportunities, access to financial financing, and vendor competency development.
The initiatives under the first thrust include Business Market Opportunities, where TNB has introduced the Bumiputera Consultant Global Framework Agreement (BCGFA) to increase the participation of Bumiputera consultants in energy transition and consultancy projects.
This framework provides broader access to Bumiputera consultants to be involved in large-scale and competitive projects at the domestic and global levels.
For the second thrust, Access to Financial Financing, TNB has signed a Letter of Collaboration (LOC) with TERAJU to provide a special financing scheme for Bumiputera vendors, which helps them strengthen cash flow and competitiveness in project implementation, especially for energy transition and digitalisation projects.
Meanwhile, under the third thrust, Competency Development, TNB has sponsored qualified vendors to obtain technical competencies through TNB training centres and TVET programmes, with the aim of producing skilled Bumiputeras who are able to penetrate the global energy market.
The collaboration between TNB and TERAJU also supports the Bumiputera Empowerment Policy (TPB2030) and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), in line with the country's desire to empower the green economy, digitalisation and global competitiveness.
The key areas opened under PV 3.0 include projects related to Hybrid Hydro-Floating Solar (HFFS), Centralised Solar Park (CSP), Solar Farm, EV Charging and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), which are now core to the country's energy transition plan.
This effort to empower Bumiputera vendors' economies focuses on strengthening economic capabilities through expanding equitable opportunities, reducing dependency, and a more inclusive and sustainable future to enhance the country's competitiveness.
