KOTA KINABALU, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- Muslims in Sabah have been reminded to fulfil their civic duty by casting their votes in the 17th Sabah state election tomorrow.
The reminder came through Friday sermons prepared by the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAINS) under the theme ‘Islamic Leaders, Role Models for the People’.
“Let us all carry out our responsibility as citizens by going out to vote and choosing leaders who can continue the state’s development agenda and promote the welfare of the people,” the sermons said.
“If a leader is righteous, the society they lead will prosper and vice versa. Be leaders who act as shields, protecting, guiding and ensuring the peace of their people in all circumstances, while constantly improving themselves and cultivating noble character,” it added.
Muslims were also reminded to obey leaders as long as their directives do not conflict with Islamic law. The sermons cautioned that ‘leaders should avoid betrayal in carrying out their trust and responsibilities, as acts of betrayal can destroy themselves and divide the community’.
Polling for the 17th Sabah state election, which involves 1.76 million registered voters, will take place tomorrow. Friday sermons were delivered in mosques across the state today.
