SERDANG, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) is awaiting official data on the number of farmers affected by recent floods, including in Kedah, before disbursing aid through its disaster funds, said Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.
He said the funds are not activated on a one-off basis, but rather based on current conditions and the scale of impact during each disaster season.
“Floods have just occurred, and waters have only recently receded in Kedah. We expect to receive the actual figures in the coming days. Only then will the disaster fund be channelled to eligible farmers,” he told reporters after the pre-launch of the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism (MAHA) 2026 exhibition here today.
He added that the ministry has yet to obtain official data on the number of affected states, as KPKM teams can only conduct damage assessments once floodwaters fully subside.
KPKM previously announced that post-disaster assistance is available under the Padi Crop Disaster Fund (TBTP) for rice farmers and the Agricultural Disaster Fund (TBP) for agri-food operators.
Mohamad said on Monday that RM25 million has been allocated under the TBP this year to aid victims of disasters such as floods and drought.
