TUN MUSA, AHMAD ZAHID JOIN FUNERAL PRAYERS FOR BUNG MOKTAR

KOTA KINABALU, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi joined thousands of mourners in performing the funeral prayers for the late Kinabatangan MP, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

Held after Friday prayers, the funeral prayers were led by the State Mosque’s Grand Imam, Suhaidi Kuanting, at the Kota Kinabalu City Mosque, here today.

Also present were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin, Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong and Sabah Federal Secretary Datuk Mohd Razali Wahab.

Several other Sabah Cabinet ministers, Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders, as well as the late leader’s family members and friends were also in attendance.

After the funeral prayers, Ahmad Zahid, who is also BN chairman, joined other senior BN leaders in paying their last respects to Bung Moktar.

Bung Moktar’s remains were laid to rest at the Kampung Likas Muslim Cemetery, here.

Earlier, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, along with state leaders and members of the public, paid their last respects to the Sabah BN chairman at his residence in Luyang.

Bung Moktar, 66, died at a private hospital in Kota Kinabalu at 1.46 am, his son Naim Kurniawan Moktar confirmed.

He had retained the Lamag state seat in the 17th Sabah state election on Nov 29.
