NAGOYA (Japan), Dec 5 (Bernama-Kyodo) -- Toyota Motor Corp. unveiled on Friday prototypes of its new GR GT supercar and GR GT3 race car for the first time, both slated for launch around 2027, Kyodo News Agency reported.
The GR GT premiered in the company's Woven City, a city-sized mobility test course in Susono, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is the company's first supercar since the Lexus LFA launched in 2010, and it is positioned as the pinnacle of its sports car line-up.
It will be developed under the GR brand, while the GR GT3 race car is also developed based on the GR GT.
The pricing of the two models has yet to be announced.
The company said it plans to develop supercars on a regular basis, seeking to pass its manufacturing technology and expertise on to the next generation.
At the unveiling event, Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda likened the technology and knowledge to seasoning, saying that he wishes to pass on "the secret sauce" of car-making and entrust car manufacturing to his peers.
Along with the two prototypes, Lexus unveiled the Lexus LFA Concept, a battery-electric sports car, for the first time.
