KPKT ALLOCATES RM85.6 MILLION TO NATIONAL LANDSCAPE DEPT, TARGETS TO BUILD 1000 MADANI RECREATIONAL PARKS

IPOH, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- Another RM85.6 million has been allocated by the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) to the National Landscape Department for the development of MADANI Recreational Parks (TRM) nationwide.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the allocation is to meet the target of establishing 1,000 MADANI recreational parks across the country, to enhance the well-being and quality of life of the people.

“For this year, we have not only achieved the initial target of 100 TRMs, but, as of this morning, 216 have been fully completed - surpassing expectations. This new allocation will ensure continued progress toward meeting the overall target of 1,000 TRMs nationwide,” he said at a press conference after officiating the launching ceremony of the 100th community space (RUKOM) at Pangsapuri Seri Kepayang, here, today.

Earlier, he officiated the opening of the TRM Taman Tanjak in Batu Gajah, developed with an allocation of RM500,000 and located between Jalan Gopeng and Sungai Kinta.

Meanwhile, Nga said that Perak recorded the highest number of TRMs nationwide, with a total of 34 parks established across the state.

Nga said that as part of efforts to curb vandalism, monitoring at TRM locations will be strengthened under the safe city programme, including through the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.

“We hope that with this meaningful government initiative, the public will play their part in looking after these facilities. The installation of more CCTV cameras will also help reduce incidents of property damage,” he said.

Touching on RUKOM, Nga said that through URBANICE Malaysia, 100 such community spaces have so far been developed in residential areas, particularly in People’s Housing Programme (PPR) and low-cost housing nationwide.

RUKOM serves as an inclusive social hub for all segments of society, especially PPR residents, and directly supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11, which aims to create safe, inclusive and sustainable cities and communities.

“RUKOM serves as a platform for community activities, skills training, safe social interaction and the development of neighbourhood identity, including dedicated reading spaces for children.

“Each RUKOM is built at a cost of RM20,000 to RM30,000. For the 100 RUKOM established so far, we spent under RM30 million, and of that number, 12 were developed in Perak, including the one at this apartment,” he said.

He added that the first RUKOM was implemented at PPR Seri Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, on July 6, 2023, and since then, his ministry has continued to intensify efforts to build and enhance more community spaces in PPR areas nationwide.
