M'SIA SCOUTS TO CARRY ON ROLE IN SHAPING NEXT GENERATION OF YOUTH - NATIONAL CHIEF SCOUT

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- The Scouts Association of Malaysia (PPM) expressed its commitment to carry on its role in building leadership and character in the younger generation, in line with the body’s strategic direction in shaping competitive youth.

National Chief Scout Maj Gen Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Zin Bidin said scouting was an informal educational platform proven to build discipline, leadership and patriotism for over 117 years and is part of a global youth network with over 60 million members in 174 countries.

“PPM currently is focused on several initiatives, including 21st century leadership training, creative and responsive youth empowerment programmes, talent enhancement in technology and environment, along with improving the integrity of governance and networking with the government, industries and the media,” he said during his speech at the PPM dinner with the media here tonight.

He also stressed that the media plays a major role in lifting the voices of youth and allows society to understand the role of scouts in building the future of the country.

“Cooperation of our media partners play a strategic role in improving the profile, influence and continuity of the scouting movement at the national level,” he said.

He noted that it was thanks to the media that positive stories would continue to inspire, the voices of youth would continue to be heard and the scouting movement would remain firmly in the hearts of the people and the country.

At the dinner, the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) received the Excellent Media Coverage Award, which was presented by Mohd Zin to Bernama News Services Assistant Editor V Sankara Subramaniam.
