YAYASAN MAHIR MALAYSIA LAUNCHES TVET SUPERHEROES TO CAPTIVATE YOUTHS

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Mahir Malaysia has gone out of the box to propose an animated approach of using superhero characters to pique the younger generation's interest in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and overcome the stigma that the field is a second-class option.

Its president, Datuk P. Sri Ganes, said visual methods and storytelling in the form of superheroes could be a new communication medium that resonates more closely with youth interests, while also helping the community understand the importance of technical skills as the country moves towards automation and the digital economy.

"Many students and parents still see TVET as an alternative path. By introducing superhero characters, we symbolise that skills are strengths and advantages, not weaknesses," he said at the 11th SG TVET Group Graduation Ceremony -- Wira TVET Convocation here recently.

At the ceremony, SG TVET Group Berhad introduced a new initiative by launching six superhero characters known as Wira TVET, to highlight the field of strategic skills being taught to youths, to the general public.

The six characters are Aero Wira–Skybyte (drones), Mecha Wira–Torque (mechatronics), Volt Wira–ChargeR (electric vehicles), Chef Wira–Flamebatik (hospitality), Cipher (information technology and digital media) and Media Wira–PixelRaya (creative media).

Sri Ganes, who is also SG Academy (M) Sdn Bhd chief executive officer (CEO), said these characters can be used in educational material, awareness campaigns and career programmes to help the younger generation see the potential of TVET in a more engaging way, which is aligned with industry needs.

“This is a form of creative communication that can support the government’s efforts to position TVET as a driver of the future workforce. Traditional approaches are no longer sufficient to attract the young,” he said.

The ceremony also saw Siemens Malaysia president and CEO Tindaro Danze present certificates to trainees who completed the industrial automation and mechatronics certification programme under the SG TVET–Siemens Malaysia collaboration.

In addition, the NEXUS TVET (Kerjaya) Careers platform was staged to bring together more than 13 industry partners offering more than 100 jobs and industrial training placements for students and graduates.
