SEA GAMES THAILAND 2025: NEWS IN BRIEF: DEC 10

BANGKOK: Here is a summary of news involving Malaysian athletes at the SEA Games Thailand 2025 here today:

 

VOLLEYBALL

The national women's team started its campaign on the wrong foot, conceding to Indonesia 12-25, 12-25, 16-25 at the Huamark Indoor Stadium in Group B action.

Malaysia will continue their group stage matches against Vietnam tomorrow, followed by Myanmar on Friday.

Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.

 

CRICKET:

The national women’s team sealed a semifinal berth in the T10 event after finishing second in Group B.

Malaysia began today’s group fixtures at the Asian Institute of Technology with a 26-run win over the Philippines, before falling by four wickets to group winners Myanmar.

The women’s team will now battle defending champions Thailand for a place in the final.

After defeating the Philippines yesterday, the national men’s cricket squad kept their winning momentum in the T20 competition by beating Indonesia by six wickets at the TerdThai Cricket Ground.

Malaysia, who won the toss and opted to bat, posted 78 runs from 9.0 overs, while Indonesia managed 75 runs from 20.0 overs.

 

MOUNTAIN BIKE (MTB):

National women’s MTB rider Eddyna Nasuhar Zainal Abidi fell short of her target of at least a bronze medal after finishing seventh in the downhill event at the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi.

Thailand’s Deekaballes Vipavee clinched gold, followed by Indonesia’s Agustina Riska Amelia with silver, while another Thai rider, Ritthidet Kanokrat, took bronze.

 

BASKETBALL:

The national men’s basketball squad opened their 3-on-3 (3v3) group campaign with a 21-5 win over Laos before narrowly losing 19-21 to the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the women’s team lost 10-19 to Indonesia and will face the Philippines later today in their second group match.

 

BILLIARD & SNOOKER

At the Thunder Dome Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi, national women’s team pair Brionica Song Kai Yin/Tan Kim Mei saw their campaign come to an end in the quarterfinals after falling 0-3 to host pair, thus missing out on a place in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, in the men’s 6 Reds snooker singles event, Thor Chuan Leong confirmed his spot in tomorrow’s quarterfinals with a 5-2 victory over Thailand’s James Wattana.

 

BASEBALL 

The national men’s team suffered their fifth defeat of the campaign after going down 7-14 to Singapore at the Queen Sirikit Sports Center, Pathum Thani.

 

SEPAK TAKRAW

Malaysia began their men’s team regu campaign in superb fashion with an easy 3-0 win over Singapore in the opening group match at the Nakhon Pathom Municipality Stadium.

In the women’s competition, Malaysia also secured a 3-0 victory after Cambodia withdrew from the Games due to heightened border tensions with Thailand.

The men’s squad are scheduled to face the Philippines, while the women’s squad will take on Myanmar in their second group-stage matches tomorrow.

Earlier, in the chinlone linking event, both the men’s and women’s squads had to settle for sharing the bronze medal with Laos after recording the lowest number of touches in the finals held today.

 

BOXING

National boxer Muhammad Rasdenal Haikal marched into the semi-finals of the 57-kg category after defeating Khammy Souliya of Laos in the quarter-finals held at Chulalongkorn University.

 

GYMNASTICS - ARTISTIC

Several national artistic gymnasts secured places in their respective apparatus finals at the SEA Games Thailand 2025 held at the Thammasat University Rangsit Campus in Pathum Thani

In the men’s events, Luqman Al-Hafiz Zulfa advanced to the finals of the floor exercise and horizontal bar, while Mohammad Sharul Aimy qualified for the vault and pommel horse.

Ng Chun Chen also confirmed his spots in the rings and parallel bars finals.

In the women’s event, Rachel Yeoh progressed to the uneven bars final, with Yeap Kang Xian booking her places in the vault, balance beam and floor exercise.

Cadence Teh Zi Qi also made the cut in both the balance beam and floor exercise events.

All finals will take place on tomorrow and Friday.
