KUALA NERUS, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- Hotels and tourism operators have been instructed to brief guests and screen safety videos about monsoon-related dangers ahead of the school holidays starting next week.

State Tourism, Culture, Environment, and Climate Change Committee chairman Datuk Razali Idris said swimming and camping near waterfalls are strictly prohibited during the Northeast Monsoon, as they pose grave, life-threatening risks.

"We understand visitor numbers will be high during the school break. Therefore, we are reminding the public to avoid swimming in the sea or at waterfalls due to the risk of water surges.

"For islands, we defer to the Marine Department to determine whether tourists can access specific locations," he said after launching the 2026 Terengganu Calendar of Events here today. Also present was State Tourism director Hilman Hajijan.

In a separate update, Razali said Terengganu welcomed 8.5 million tourists between January and November, exceeding its 6 million target, with 7.2 million being domestic visitors.
