WUSHU TALENTS' GOLDEN SHINE IN 2025 SEA GAMES

BANGKOK, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- The talents of Malaysia’s wushu exponents shone at the 2025 South East Asian (SEA) Games as they recorded a haul of three gold, one silver and five bronze medals, exceeding the set target of one gold medal.

Wushu Federation of Malaysia president Datuk Chong Kim Fatt was confident that local wushu exponents will continue to shine when Malaysia hosts the upcoming 2027 SEA Games.

“For 2027, we can see a clear target in terms of medals. I’m convinced that (Pang) Pui Yee would have gotten the gold if she wasn’t sick on the first day (of the individual event) and she will become our star in the future.

"Mandy Cebelle Chan meanwhile, needs  time to mature but I’m confident that when 2027 comes, medals will not be a problem for her (in the individual event), even if the gold might require a longer period of development. I’m very satisfied with the national squad’s performance,” he told Bernama as he praised Mandy and Pui Yee for their gold medal contributions in the team events.

Wushu had a target of only one gold through world champion Tan Cheong Min but happily ended up with a haul of three gold, the additional two coming from the women’s duilian team of Cheong Min, Lo Ying Ting and Pui Yee with a score of 9.730 today and the women’s dullian (without weapons) team of Ying Ting, Mandy and Sydney Chin Sy Xuan on Saturday.

He also shared that the federation would engage foreign coaches for several disciplines to further strengthen the national squad.

Malaysia won two gold, two silver and six bronze in the last SEA Games.
