TAWAU, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airports continues its corporate responsibility (CR) initiative, MYAirportCARES through its involvement in the MADANI Adopted School programme this year.

Malaysia Airports managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said the initiative was carried out via two main programmes, namely Ceria Kembali Ke Sekolah and Educational Visit to the Airport.

“This year, we are pleased to be able to collaborate with the MADANI Adopted School programme to implement the two CR initiatives. This approach allows for assistance and educational exposure to be channelled in a more structured manner to the communities that need it most,” he said in a statement here today.

Mohd Izani said MYAirportCARES is Malaysia Airports’ way of contributing to the future of the younger generation in the communities around the airport to create a better learning environment, with basic school assistance to exposure to the world of airport operations.

Meanwhile, he said the ‘Ceria Kembali ke Sekolah’ Programme which started in 2018 has benefited more than 4,500 students nationwide, while more than 5,500 students have benefited from the Airport Educational Visit Programme since 2023.

On Dec 9, the Ceria Kembali ke Sekolah programme was carried out at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kuala Apas here which saw 150 students taken to buy basic schooling supplies in preparation for the 2026 session.

"Each student from the low-income group received assistance of RM400 to buy items such as school uniform, shoes and bags, while a total of 410 students received assistance to purchase school books and sportswear," he said.

For year six students of SK Kuala Apas, Munira Muriyadi said the assistance from Malaysia Airports to buy school supplies could ease the burden of their parents.

“My mother worked hard to find money for her family’s food and school needs. I am grateful and thankful to Malaysia Airports for willing to help buy school supplies,” she said.

Meanwhile, a Malay Language teacher who is also the coordinator of the Parent, Community and Private Involvement (PIBKS) of SK Kuala Apas, Suhaimi Taif said that the 150 students selected for the MYAirportCARES programme are from low-income family backgrounds including fishermen and farmers.

“Our school was selected as a MADANI Adopted School under the MYAirportCARES initiative and this is the first programme to involve students on a large scale. A million thanks to Malaysia Airports and we hope that this programme will continue in the future,” he said.

He said that among the criteria for selecting students who receive assistance are families of students who do not have a fixed income, or are self-employed such as fishermen.

Along with efforts to expand access and educational exposure to this group, the Airport Educational Visit Programme also provides opportunities for school students to visit the airport, understand daily operations and career potential in the airport operations sector.

On Dec 3, 30 students and 16 teachers from SK Lubok Nibong, Marudi, Sarawak participated in the Miri Airport Educational Visit which included sessions with the fire brigade, aviation safety and terminal operations, including visiting facilities.
