KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 (Bernama) -- The National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund (TEKUN Nasional) has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and driving people-based economic growth under the leadership of newly appointed Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Steven Sim.
TEKUN Nasional chairman Datuk Abdullah Sani Abd Hamid said Sim’s leadership is expected to further strengthen the MSME sector and promote more inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
He said the new leadership, supported by refreshed strategies and improved financing policies, would position MSMEs as the backbone of the national economy while ensuring balanced, resilient, and inclusive growth.
“TEKUN Nasional welcomes Steven Sim’s appointment and expresses full confidence in his leadership in advancing the MSME empowerment agenda.
“We fully support empowerment policies that cut across all races and regions, in line with the principles of inclusivity and social justice that underpin national economic development,” he said in a statement today.
Abdullah Sani said TEKUN Nasional would continue assisting micro-entrepreneurs through financing facilities and entrepreneur development programmes.
Since its establishment in 1998 until November 2025, TEKUN Nasional has disbursed 866,476 financing facilities amounting to RM11.15 billion across various business sectors nationwide, he said.
In line with the MADANI Government’s commitment to assisting flood-affected communities, a financing moratorium of up to six months without interest will be granted to affected TEKUN entrepreneurs nationwide.
“The moratorium covers all TEKUN Nasional financing as an immediate measure to ease financial burdens and support business recovery,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abdullah Sani said the allocation for the Bumiputera Financing Fund under TEKUN Nasional would be increased from RM300 million in 2025 to RM500 million in 2026 as part of continued efforts to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
He added that financing for Indian entrepreneurs under the Indian Community Entrepreneur Financing Scheme (SPUMI) would also be enhanced, with the allocation rising from RM30 million this year to RM50 million in 2026.
