RM171.53 MILLION ZAKAT DISTRIBUTED TO ASNAF IN PENANG AS OF NOV 30

GEORGE TOWN, Dec 21 (Bernama) -- As of Nov 30, over RM171.53 million has been distributed by Zakat Penang State Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP) to the asnaf (eligible recipients) across the state, according to Deputy Chief Minister I, Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid.

Mohamad, who is also the MAINPP president said this amount represents 86 per cent of the total zakat allocation for the year, which is RM199.75 million.

“This reflects our strong commitment to ensure that zakat funds are distributed promptly and accurately to those who are entitled. It also demonstrates the transparency and professionalism of the zakat institution in fulfilling its responsibility,” he said at the closing ceremony of the Kembara Zakat 2025 at Masjid Al-Huda, Sungai Ara here last night.

Mohamad also expressed confidence that the target of RM200 million in zakat collection for this year would be met, given the encouraging performance so far. As of Nov 30, RM143.45 million, or 72 per cent of the annual target, has been collected.

To boost zakat collection, he said MAINPP will launch the Zakat Sprint Month campaign offering zakat payers the chance to win a grand prize of an Umrah package, with a minimum zakat payment of RM500.

During the event, Mohamad also presented tokens of appreciation to 240 mosque committees across Penang, with 806 committee members receiving recognition, amounting to a total of RM504,200.
