PUTRAJAYA, Dec 24 (Bernama) — Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Zhejiang University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for five years of science and technology cooperation, with a primary focus on the development of artificial intelligence (AI), said Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang.
He said the collaboration includes the establishment of a Joint Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, joint research and technology development, postgraduate programmes, academic and student exchanges, as well as technology transfer and commercialisation of research outcomes.
Chang said he welcomed the form of cooperation, which goes beyond academic exchanges and focuses on tangible outcomes and impact on national development.
“The role of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation is to provide platforms and a national-level ecosystem so that the strengths of university research can be translated into economic value and national progress, while also connecting local talent with world-class research networks,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Chang said the cooperation, which was formalised on Dec 19, followed his working visit to China in June, which also included a visit to Zhejiang University to open up opportunities for research collaboration between Malaysia and China.
