MELAKA, Dec 31 (Bernama) -- Melaka’s aspiration to become an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven state continues to gain momentum with the implementation of Smart Tourism Melaka AI and the introduction of the Visit Melaka 2.0 Tourism Passport.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the initiatives have positioned smart technology as a key component of the state’s tourism industry.
He said the efforts served as a key driver of Melaka’s tourism transformation, coinciding with the launch of Visit Melaka Year (TMM) 2.0 and in support of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
“In line with Melaka’s aspiration to become an AI-driven state, the state government is strengthening digital tourism to provide a smarter, more efficient and competitive experience for visitors,” he said at the 2026 New Year’s Eve celebration at Encore Melaka, Klebang, here tonight.
The event was held alongside the launch of TMM 2.0 and the Diamond Jubilee of the Special Service Regiment.
Ab Rauf said the move would also help the state government in its effort to attract 19 million tourists by 2026, through more than 220 events planned for the year and supported by digital systems and AI.
“The smart tourism approach is not only aimed at making it easier for tourists but would also enhance Melaka’s image as a modern destination that combines heritage, culture and technology.
“We want tourists to be amazed not just by Melaka’s scenic beauty, but also by the advanced and credible tourism technology available in the state,” he said.
Earlier, more than 40,000 visitors attended the colourful ceremony, which was graced by the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka, Tun Dr. Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam, as well as other state leaders.
The event also featured Fauziah Gambus and Haziq Rosebi, two icons of traditional Malay tunes, performing Zapin Asam Paya and Norlela.
Visitors who arrived from 5 pm were also treated to a special performance by the Special Service Regiment and Tourism Melaka, featuring a gimmick to mark the launch of TMM 2.0.
