KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the performance of enforcement agencies over the past two years has been commendable, particularly in their action against high-profile individuals.
He said agencies such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the Inland Revenue Board and the Immigration Department have demonstrated a strong commitment in carrying out their duties.
“I think compared with the last two years, the performance of the effective enforcement has been quite commendable.
“I am not saying that I am totally satisfied, but we have gone through all the big guns, including former prime ministers and former ministers,” he told a press conference after officiating the introduction of a new giant panda pair at Zoo Negara’s Giant Panda Conservation Centre here today.
He said the government is also closely monitoring Cabinet members and government officials to ensure accountability and integrity within the administration.
However, the Prime Minister stressed that corruption in Malaysia is not merely endemic but systemic, and addressing it requires sustained and a lot of efforts.
Nevertheless, Anwar reaffirmed the government’s firm resolve to continue pursuing anti-corruption measures.
“I have made it very clear in my message that we will continue to pursue this,” he said.
