PUTRAJAYA, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- Officers and personnel of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) have been reminded to uphold the highest standards of integrity and to avoid any involvement in abuse of power or corruption.
AKPS director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said that the agency will not compromise on any misconduct, including abuse of power or corrupt practices, that could undermine the image of the agency and the country.
He said that the widespread use of technology and the influence of social media today make it easier for any misconduct or unethical behaviour to be detected and exposed to the public.
“We constantly remind AKPS officers not to be involved in any abuse of power or corruption, because there will always be eyes watching.
“If such acts are recorded or exposed, very strict action will be taken. As I have said, I will not compromise,” he told a press conference after the presentation of credentials to AKPS commanders here today.
He said every AKPS commander appointed must take responsibility for implementing transformations or initiatives that have a meaningful impact on the country.
“Commanders must be practical and pragmatic in carrying out their duties. If they remain in their offices issuing instructions without understanding what is happening on the ground, it will lead to miscommunication between field personnel and leadership.
“When that happens, there is no synchronisation. I will not hesitate to make changes if necessary,” he said.
At the ceremony, Mohd Shuhaily presented the letter of appointment to SAC Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal, who was appointed as the Port Klang entry control commander.
Also receiving their letters of appointment were Diplomatic Administrative Officer Mohd Safrie Zakaria, appointed as the KLIA Terminal 1 entry control commander, and Customs Superintendent Farah Azura Mohd Shargawi, appointed as the Kuantan Port entry control commander.
Earlier in his speech, Mohd Shuhaily said the appointment of the three new AKPS commanders from different departmental and agency backgrounds was based on their respective qualifications, experience and expertise in managing the country’s entry points.
He said that following the gazetting of the establishment of AKPS in October 2024, a total of 22 entry points nationwide have been placed under the agency’s supervision.
“Of that total, seven entry control commander positions have been filled as of last year,” he said.
