IPOH, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- The former chairman of a regional Muslim non-governmental organisation (NGO) Mohd Hakim Mohd Nor was once again charged, this time at the Sessions Court here today, with 10 counts of misappropriation of the organisation's funds.
Mohd Hakim, 39, was charged with misappropriating aid donations for humanitarian missions collected by the organisation in collaboration with NGOs in Myanmar, Yemen, Syria and Palestine totalling RM631,373.13.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty after all the charges were read out before Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi.
According to the charges, Mohd Hakim, as chairman of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Serantau Muslim, is alleged to have dishonestly misused the organisation's funds in several banks around Ipoh, Batu Gajah and Bandar Seri Iskandar between January 2018 and December 2021.
He is accused of committing all the offences under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which provides for a minimum prison sentence of six months and not more than five years, whipping and a fine, if convicted.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutors Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin and Asmaa' Zamri applied for the case to be transferred to the Melaka Sessions Court 1 to be tried together with the accused's earlier cases in the state.
Lawyer Azizzul Shariman Mat Yusoff, who represented the accused, did not object to the application.
Judge Meor Sulaiman then ordered the case to be transferred to the Melaka Sessions Court to be tried together with the previous case, and the bail in that case was applied to today's case.
Yesterday, Mohd Hakim was charged at the Melaka Sessions Court on six counts of misappropriating the organisation's funds involving donations for humanitarian missions totalling RM576,995.40 between June 2019 and May 2021.
Last Monday, Mohd Hakim was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on charges of misappropriating aid donations for humanitarian missions totalling RM207,000, seven years ago.
