MAIS STEPS UP LEGALISATION OF PRIVATE RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS TO ENSURE SAFETY, COMPLIANCE

SHAH ALAM, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- The legalisation process for private religious schools in Selangor will be intensified this year, to ensure that their management complies with safety, registration and health requirements, in accordance with regulations set by the authorities.

Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin said the process would be implemented in phases, based on school categories, beginning with all private tahfiz schools.

“We completed the legalisation process for tahfiz schools in December 2025, granting conditional approvals, and will now focus on private religious primary schools,” he said when delivering his message at the Dewan Syarahan dan Muzakarah Islam, Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, here, today.

Salehuddin said the move was in line with the decree of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who has stressed that all religious and tahfiz schools in the state must fully comply with the regulations and laws in force.

Touching on the ‘Glamping with Pride’ programme in Hulu Langat, Salehuddin said MAIS would work closely with the relevant authorities to monitor and take appropriate action against any activities found to be contrary to the law and Islamic principles.

“Although the organisers have stated that the programme has been cancelled, we will continue to monitor the situation, to ensure there are no attempts to revive it discreetly. We do not want to be caught off guard by the cancellation announcement, and will remain vigilant at all times,” he said.

Earlier, Salehuddin launched the Selangor Islamic Affairs Sustainability Roadmap (HATIS) 2025-2030, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening and empowering Islamic institutions in the state.

Salehuddin said that the roadmap is designed to ensure that every plan and initiative undertaken by MAIS, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), and their agencies and subsidiaries, is implemented systematically and effectively, in line with sustainability aspirations and the interests of the Muslim community.

“I understand that from January to November 2025, the achievement rate of the sustainability roadmap stood at 90 per cent,” he said.

“I hope that the momentum of excellence can be sustained and translated into meaningful success for the Muslim community. As an Islamic institution, I urge that all initiatives outlined in the sustainability roadmap be implemented effectively to foster continued excellence,” he said.

At the same ceremony, Fisabilillah Waqf contributions, amounting to RM2.8 million, were presented by Islamic educational institutions, mosques and surau to the JAIS, while a cash waqf fund contribution of RM346,000 was presented to the Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah.
