INDIA URGES ITS NATIONALS TO LEAVE IRAN

Published : 14/01/2026 07:39 PM

NEW DELHI, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- India on Wednesday urged its more than 10,000 nationals in Iran to leave due to the prevailing tense situation there.

The Indian Embassy in Tehran said in a statement that "in view of the evolving situation in Iran, Indian nationals who are currently in Iran (students, pilgrims, business persons and tourists) are advised to leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights."

India's External Affairs Ministry on Wednesday also issued a travel advisory asking Indian nationals not to travel to Iran "in view of the ongoing developments".

Iran has been hit by anti-government protests in recent days, ostensibly over economic hardships, but Iranian leaders have blamed external intelligence networks of arming and funding insurgents to target public infrastructure and government assets.
