MAKNA FOUNDER MOHD FARID ARIFFIN DIES AGED 84

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 (Bernama) — National Cancer Council (MAKNA) founder and former deputy health minister Datuk Mohd Farid Ariffin died yesterday at the age of 84.

In a statement posted on Facebook, MAKNA confirmed his passing and said Mohd Farid’s visionary leadership, unwavering dedication and compassion had transformed the lives of many and strengthened the nation’s fight against cancer. 

“His legacy and commitment will continue to inspire us at MAKNA. May Allah SWT forgive his sins, bestow abundant mercy upon him, grant him Jannatul Firdaus, and give patience and strength to his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the statement said.

According to his daughter, Farahida, Mohd Farid died at 5.38 pm.

His remains will be bathed and prayers performed at Masjid Kariah Labu Hilir, Kampung Labu Hilir, Labu, Negeri Sembilan, at about 9.30 am today, before burial at around 11 am.

Mohd Farid, who was a native of Kuala Nerang, Kedah, served as deputy health minister from 1989 to 1995.

In 1994, he founded MAKNA to raise public awareness about cancer and to provide comprehensive support, including financial, emotional, physical and educational assistance, to cancer patients, particularly the underprivileged.
