JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- The Johor Department of Environment (DOE) issued 580 compounds totalling RM1.16 million for various offences under the Environmental Quality Regulations (PPKAS) throughout last year.
Its director, Dr Mohd Famey Yusoff, said the fines were imposed through 13 enforcement operations at 590 industries, licenced premises, and sewage plants across the state.
He added that the operations involved collaboration between five branches and four enforcement units of the department to ensure compliance with environmental laws.
During the operations, 530 Field Orders, 200 Notices of Direction, and 24 Equipment Operation Detentions (POK)related to pollution were also issued.
“Johor DOE remains committed to ensuring sustainable development in the state without compromising environmental conservation,” he said in a statement.
In addition to enforcement, Mohd Famey said the department provides advisory services and conducted five seminars to enhance industry compliance and responsibility towards the environment.
