IMMEDIATE REPAIRS UNDERWAY ON TUARAN BYPASS, KINABATANGAN ROADS - SABAH JKR

KOTA KINABALU, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- The Sabah Public Works Department (JKR) is carrying out immediate repair works to address the road damage issue, which has gone viral on social media, involving the Tuaran Bypass here and on routes in Kinabatangan.

In a statement, Sabah JKR said the damage along the Tuaran Bypass at the Sinaway U-turn was caused by soft subgrade conditions and an inadequate drainage system, which led to road surface settlement, particularly during rainy conditions.

Sabah JKR has directed immediate maintenance works to be carried out to ensure the comfort and safety of road users in the affected areas.

“At the same time, preparations are underway for permanent repairs estimated at RM15 million, covering the entire Tebobon-Tuaran road stretch from Sinaway to Tebobon,” it said today.

Meanwhile, along the Sandakan-Kinabatangan route, temporary repair works through heavy patching are being carried out to cover potholes by contractors appointed under the Pan Borneo Highway project.

According to the statement, repair works along the Sukau Roundabout to Kampung Jaya Baru stretch have been completed, while works at subsequent locations are currently in progress.

“As a long-term solution, this route will be fully upgraded through the construction of a new road under the Pan Borneo Highway project to provide a more permanent and sustainable solution,” it said.
