KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- The Human Resources Ministry (KESUMA) today launched the VETRI MADANI Skills Programme 2026 (VETRI), an inclusive skills development initiative aimed at empowering the Malaysian Indian community through structured training and job placement opportunities.

As the implementing agency, the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) has allocated an RM10 million fund with a target of training 2,000 participants nationwide, focusing on enhancing employability through recognised professional certifications.

According to HRD Corp, the programme is aligned with the focus areas of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) and supports KESUMA’s aspiration to build an inclusive, future-ready workforce.

“Designed to empower the local Indian community, the programme offers structured training pathways that improve quality of life by creating employment opportunities and upskilling participants in line with industry needs.

“Courses will be offered across key high-growth and strategic sectors, including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, cybersecurity and information security, cloud infrastructure and data science analytics, automation, robotics and Industry 4.0, as well as semiconductor and advanced electronics engineering, among others,” HRD Corp said in a statement today.

The programme was launched by Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan during a Ponggal celebration at Sri Siva Subramaniar Temple in Sungai Buloh, in conjunction with the nationwide Ponggal Day celebration marking the harvest festival.

HRD Corp stated that the VETRI MADANI Skills Programme also reaffirms the agency’s commitment to advancing inclusive talent development by equipping the Malaysian Indian community with future-ready skills that enhance employability, promote upward mobility, and support national economic growth.

To ensure nationwide reach and effective implementation, HRD Corp will collaborate with State Skills Development Centres and training providers registered with the agency.

In line with HRD Corp’s commitment to good governance and transparency, the programme will be administered fully online, while training courses will be conducted physically or in hybrid mode.
