Published : 20/01/2026 06:20 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- Former national elite player Sharon Wee has made history after being elected Melaka Squash Association (MSA) president.

The Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) posted on Facebook that Sharon is the first woman to hold the post since its establishment in 1974.

Sharon said she hopes to contribute to the development of squash by drawing on her experience as a state, elite national and former world No 18 player, as well as her background in coaching, broadcasting, the corporate world and active involvement in sports administration.

“I hope this appointment will inspire more former athletes to return and take on leadership roles in sports associations, and also encourage more women to be courageous in stepping forward to assume key positions,” said Sharon, who succeeds Han Yong Chye, who had served as president since December 2024.
