TELEDYNE LAUNCHES SCION FAMILY OF SWIR CAMERAS

Published : 21/01/2026 03:31 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- Teledyne Judson Technologies, a Teledyne Technologies company and global imaging solutions leader, announced the launch of the SCION Family of SWIR cameras, a high-performance platform designed for demanding applications in hyperspectral imaging, biosciences, space & defence, and semiconductor markets.

“SCION reflects our ability to unite sensor manufacturing and camera system expertise within Teledyne to support evolving imaging applications.

“By combining VisGaAs sensitivity with low-noise, thermoelectrically cooled camera design and advanced readout modes, the SCION VIS–SWIR camera delivers a flexible platform for applications where performance, stability, and integration efficiency are critical,” said Teledyne Judson Technologies Director of Infrared and Spectroscopy, Paul Mark.

The SCION platform introduces cameras with a 10-micron pixel pitch in 640x512 and 1280x1024 formats, leveraging Teledyne’s proprietary Visible-sensitive InGaAs (VisGaAs) and Mercury Cadmium Telluride (MCT) sensors. Initial sensor options deliver sensitivity from 300 to 1700 nanometres (nm) or 900 to 2500 nm, combining high frame rates with sub-one-electron read noise using sample-up-the-ramp (SUPR) acquisition.

SCION cameras support a wide range of applications, including material analysis, fluorescence measurement, defect detection, and Earth observation, according to a statement.

The system’s integration of sensor, vacuum package, and camera electronics simplifies the supply chain, reduces technical risk, and optimises total cost of ownership. Its architecture allows customisation from pixel-level design through application programming interfaces (APIs) and software development kits (SDKs), reflecting Teledyne’s “Pixel-to-PC” approach.

The SCION family is designed to meet the performance, stability, and cost requirements of emerging commercial and scientific markets, combining decades of Teledyne’s sensor expertise with high-volume manufacturing capabilities.

Teledyne Judson Technologies will showcase SCION at major industry events in 2026, including SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco, California, on Jan 20 to 22, and the SPIE Defense + Commercial Sensing Conference in National Harbor, Maryland, on April 28 to 30. Demonstrations will highlight the cameras’ flexible architecture and performance features.
