JKM PROBES INTO COMPLAINTS OF ABUSE AT CHILDCARE CENTRE IN SELANGOR

SHAH ALAM, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Social Welfare Department (JKM) has received three complaints involving a childcare centre that recently went viral, over alleged violations of standard operating procedures (SOPs), including claims of child abuse at several of its branches.

Selangor JKM director Azmir Kasim said the complaints received so far involve branches located in Section 3 Shah Alam, Kota Kemuning and Puchong Prima.

“All the cases are currently under investigation by JKM. Officers have been instructed to conduct on-site investigations following the complaints received,” he said when contacted today.

Earlier, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki was reported as saying that MARA did not provide funding to the alleged child care centre in Shah Alam that was linked to the alleged child abuse case.

He stressed that MARA would not compromise with any quarters involved in such misconduct, particularly those that receive funding from the agency.

Previously, a video allegedly shared by staff at a childcare centre in Shah Alam went viral on social media, claiming that an autistic child had been locked in a storeroom.

Another video that also circulated online showed children at another branch of the childcare centre instructed to crawl through a drain to avoid inspection by JKM officers.

Meanwhile, Shah Alam police chief ACP Ramsay Embol said the police have not received any reports related to the incident depicted in the viral video.

However, he said police are investigating and are seeking the cooperation of members of the public who may have information to come forward.

“There are four videos that have gone viral on social media, shared by the owner of an Instagram account. So far, no reports have been lodged in relation to the videos, but investigations are ongoing,” he said.

Those with information are urged to contact the investigating officer, Insp Laymand Rayne, at 014-690 7071.
