KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- AIROD Sdn. Bhd. (AIROD) has reaffirmed its full commitment and readiness to support the Malaysian Government in achieving the objectives of today launched National Defence Industry Policy (NDIP).

The company, which stands as Malaysia's first aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) organisation, aims to bolster the nation's goals of defence self-reliance, industrial resilience, and long-term strategic sustainability.

Its chief executive officer, Maj Gen (R) Datuk Ir Ibrahim Bahari, stated that the company is prepared as a proven national asset to support both existing and future defence aviation platforms under the government’s modernisation programmes.

“In conjunction with the launch of NDIP, AIROD reaffirms that we are fully prepared to support the government’s current and future defence aviation requirements.

"Continuous investments in infrastructure, tooling, certifications, digitalisation and workforce development ensure that AIROD remains adaptable, platform-agnostic and future-ready,” he said in a statement today.

NDIP, launched today by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim marks a new step towards strengthening national security, restoring confidence in the defence sector, and building a more credible and integrity-driven domestic industry.

Ibrahim highlighted that with over five decades of experience supporting the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) and international operators, AIROD plays a critical role in ensuring fleet availability and operational readiness.

In line with NDIP, the company is set to contribute to several key areas, including enhancing national sovereignty by minimising dependence on foreign support through critical in-country engineering capabilities.

Furthermore, AIROD aims to leverage its existing expertise in aerospace engineering, digitalisation, and artificial intelligence (AI) to drive technological innovation within the local defence sector.

“Beyond national borders, AIROD has a proven international track record, having provided trusted MRO services to foreign air forces including the United States Air Force (USAF), United States Marine Corps, Tentera Nasional Indonesia – Angkatan Udara (TNI-AU), the Philippine Air Force and operators across Africa," the statement added.

Established in 1976 and headquartered in Subang, AIROD continues to be a cornerstone of Malaysia's aerospace industry in providing comprehensive MRO services for both local and international military partners.
