KLUANG, Jan 22 (Bernama) -- Local coffee brand, Kluang Coffee Powder Factory Sdn Bhd (Kluang TV Coffee), has received the ‘Most Visited State-Certified Heritage Coffee Factory in a Year’ award from ASEAN Records, coinciding with its 60th anniversary.
Kluang TV Coffee earned the recognition after receiving 91,056 registered visitors from January to December last year, a figure verified by ASEAN Records.
“This achievement acknowledges the factory's role as a state-recognised heritage site for coffee culture and its contribution to promoting local coffee heritage and tourism,” said Kluang TV Coffee in a statement.
ASEAN Records’ managing director, Gillian Ooi, presented the award to the company’s chief executive officer, Goh Yong Kian, during today's ASEAN Records Recognition and factory expansion groundbreaking ceremony.
Kluang TV Coffee, originally known as Kopi Kluang Cap Televisyen, was founded in 1966 on Jalan Mersing and is now managed by the brand’s third generation.
Kluang TV Coffee said the groundbreaking ceremony on an adjacent site marks the brand’s progression into its next phase of development, while still honouring its traditional coffee-making foundation.
Goh told reporters that the recognition is significant as proof that the brand remains a preferred choice even after 60 years in the market.
“One of the main reasons Kluang TV Coffee continues to be favoured is that the recipe has remained unchanged since day one, created by my late grandfather, Goh Tong Tor,” he said.
He added that he also preserves his grandfather's techniques, from roasting to brewing, and maintains the tradition of openly sharing the coffee-making process with the public.
“Not every coffee factory in the country is willing to share its production methods, but we are different. Here, visitors can see the entire process, from the coffee bean to the cup,” he said.
“We select three coffee bean varieties: Robusta from Indonesia, Arabica from Brazil, and local Liberica. These are not only preferred by local enthusiasts but also popular with international visitors,” he said.
Goh explained that the company blends traditional and modern technology to increase output, currently processing approximately 5,000 kg of coffee daily.
“While our production is largely focused on the domestic market, sales have already expanded to several ASEAN countries, such as Singapore, Brunei, and the Philippines,” he noted.
He said the company plans to triple production and enter other ASEAN markets after the factory expansion is completed and operational.
“This year, we are also planning to launch a new product called ‘Kopi Tulen’ (Pure Coffee), made without added sugar or margarine, positioning it as a healthier option suitable for everyone,” he added.
In a separate Facebook post, Tourism Johor congratulated the brand, saying that the recognition solidifies Kluang TV Coffee’s status as a local coffee heritage icon and a key tourism attraction for Johor, aligning with the Visit Johor Year 2026 and Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaigns.
