KOTA KINABALU, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- A total of 16 awards will be up for grabs at the Sabah Sports Awards ceremony on Feb 6.
Sabah Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said the ceremony aims to recognise the excellent achievements of the state's athletes at national and international levels.
“The Sabah Sports Personality Award will also be presented at the prestigious biennial ceremony, which is expected to be attended by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor,” he said in a statement today.
Nizam led the Sabah Sports Awards Main Committee to pay a courtesy call on the Chief Minister today to extend their official invitation and brief him on the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Hajiji extended his congratulations and appreciation to Sabah athletes who represented the country at the six-day 13th ASEAN Para Games (APG) in Thailand that ended today, with the state's para athletes clinching five golds, seven silvers and three bronzes in athletics; 5-8-9 in swimming; and a bronze in powerlifting.
The state's para athletes also won two bronze medals in table tennis, as well as a silver and a bronze in lawn bowls (demonstration sport).
Sabah's Wong Kar Gee, meanwhile, set a new Games record of 6.83 metres en route to winning the men’s T12 long jump event.
