GEORGE TOWN, Jan 29 (Bernama) -- The Penang state government will host a Chinese New Year Open House at SPICE Arena in Bayan Baru near here on Feb 17, 2026.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced that the public, especially Penang residents, are invited to join in the celebrations from 2 pm to 4.30 pm.
This year's event will include the presence of Yang Dipertua Negeri, Tun Ramli Ngah Taib, and his wife, Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah.
Chow said the programme will showcase the richness of Chinese traditions, culture, and values, including a variety of traditional dishes from different ethnic groups.
There will also be cultural performances, such as traditional songs, lion dances, and the 24 Festival Drums.
He added that this event symbolises unity and reflects the state government's commitment to celebrating major festivals together as one big family, fostering a community that respects cultural diversity.
The open house will be held on the first day of Chinese New Year instead of the customary second day, as Ramadan is anticipated to begin on that date.
