JAKARTA, Feb 1 (Bernama) -- The Indonesian government has completed 4,263 temporary housing units, or huntara, for victims of floods and landslides across three provinces in Sumatra at the end of January. The number represents 24 per cent of the total planned units of 17,499.
Home Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian said Aceh has the highest requirement with 15,934 units planned. Of that, 3,248 have been completed, or about 20 per cent.
North Sumatra, on the other hand, has recorded 539 completions out of 947 planned units (57 per cent), while West Sumatra shows the biggest momentum with 476 units completed out of 618 planned (77 per cent).
"Differences in achievements among provinces are influenced by the scale of needs, land readiness, and logistics access in affected areas.
"Nevertheless, the government ensures that construction acceleration continues to be carried out evenly," he said, according to ANTARA News Agency on Sunday.
Apart from Huntara Construction, Muhammad Tito said that for the same period, 5,448 affected families have received Housing Waiting Funds out of 18,043 families registered across the three affected provinces.
He noted that the distribution of the Housing Waiting Funds is carried out through cooperation between the central government, regional governments, and banks under Himpunan Bank Milik Negara to ensure a transparent, accountable, and well-targeted process.
