57 LANDSLIDE VICTIMS IDENTIFIED IN WEST BANDUNG; SAR OPERATIONS CONTINUE

JAKARTA, Feb 2 (Bernama) -- A total of 57 bodies of landslide victims in West Bandung, West Java Province, have been identified and handed over to their families.

National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB)’s Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Head Abdul Muhari said as of 4 pm Sunday, 74 body bags had been sent for identification, with 17 still undergoing the identification process.

“Search and rescue (SAR) operations continued on Monday, starting at 8 am. The joint SAR team has increased the deployment of heavy equipment to widen the search area for six people who remain missing.”

“At least 18 units of heavy equipment have been deployed in the operation,” he said in a statement on Monday.

The landslide struck Pasirlangu village at about 2.30 am on Jan 24 after high-intensity rainfall, burying several residential areas.

Abdul Muhari said the SAR operation involved 3,229 personnel. According to initial data and the latest updates, 517 evacuees have returned home, while 159 remain at evacuation centres.
