MARA'S 'GEMILANG 60 TAHUN’ CONVOY CHANNELS OVER RM20,000 AID FOR ASNAF IN PERLIS

KANGAR, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- The "Konvoi Gemilang 60 Tahun Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA)” programme is being used as a platform to engage with the asnaf group in Perlis, with over RM20,000 worth of aid disbursed in conjunction with the agency's 60th anniversary celebration.

MARA director-general Datuk Zulfikri Osman said the contributions were presented through a collaboration with its subsidiaries and strategic partners, including the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs).

"Through this programme, the close cooperation among MARA, its subsidiaries and related agencies can be strengthened in line with the aspirations of MARA's 60th anniversary celebrations,” he told reporters after the programme today. 

The 270-participant motorcycle convoy is led by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail. Also in attendance was the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

The convoy began its journey from Masjid Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and stopped at five locations, including two asnaf premises, a local business premises, an entrepreneur centre and the Kangar MARA Arcade.

Zulfikri said the aid distributed included assistance for schooling and for asnaf students pursuing further studies at higher learning institutions, as well as for home repairs and the underprivileged families.

"This programme can have a positive impact on the local communities, and be a symbol of MARA's success and excellence in implementing the national socio-economic development agenda,” he said.

During the programme, cash aid and food packs were presented to the asnaf group, as well as contributions to the adopted children of MARA's subsidiary, Rural Capital Berhad (RCB), in addition to having casual chat sessions with MARA entrepreneurs.

The programme also promoted the Kangar MARA Arcade, which provides organised business premises to empower Bumiputera entrepreneurs and boost the local economy.

In addition to RCB, the strategic collaboration also involves Yayasan Pelajaran MARA, while Institut Kemahiran MARA Beseri acts as the implementation agency for repairing the homes of the asnaf group.
