KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- Police have urged the public to provide information on a viral video showing a civilian vehicle using a siren and flashing blue lights to cut through traffic during congestion on the Maju Expressway (MEX) yesterday.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said no police report has been lodged so far over the incident.
He said analysis of the one-minute video, along with checks of the social media comment section, failed to identify the vehicle’s registration number.
“The act shown is believed to constitute an offence under Rule 138(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Rules 1959, which prohibits the installation of flashing warning lights on vehicles other than authorised emergency vehicles,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Zamzuri said if convicted, the individual involved may be charged under Section 119(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a fine of up to RM2,000 or a jail term of up to six months.
He added that investigations could also be conducted under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a public servant, an offence punishable by up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Members of the public with information are urged to assist investigations by contacting the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or any nearby police station.
