KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 (Bernama) — The selection of Malaysia as the destination for the global launch of the historical epic film Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story underscores the country’s role as a regional hub for culture and diplomacy, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said the move further strengthens Malaysia’s position as a platform where the arts are celebrated, dialogue is enhanced and human values are brought together.

“Last night, I had the opportunity to attend the global premiere screening of the epic film Taj Mahal… An Eternal Love Story, a meaningful moment that elevates the arts as a bridge of friendship, understanding and universal human values.

“I appreciate the efforts of my friend, who is also the director of the film, Akbar Khan, as well as the presence of the original cast who gave meaning to this historic evening,” he said in a Facebook post.

Anwar said that after more than two decades, the film has returned in an enhanced version using the latest technology while retaining its original beauty, offering audiences a fresher and more immersive viewing experience.

The love story of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, he said, continues to live on as a symbol of sacrifice, loyalty and the beauty of human creation that transcends time and civilisation.

Twenty-two years after its original screening in India, the award-winning cinematic work has been revived through a comprehensive 4K digital restoration process, accompanied by a Dolby Atmos sound remix.

Malaysia is the first destination of the film’s international tour, before the film depicting the love story between Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal continues to Indonesia on Feb 13 and other destinations including Russia, South Asia and West Asia.
