DOSM OUTLINES FOUR CORE THRUSTS UNDER 2026-2030 STRATEGIC PLAN

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- The 2026-2030 Department of Statistics Malaysia Strategic Plan (PSJ DOSM) outlines four main strategies encompassing innovative statistical services, digital transformation, human capital capacity development, and the empowerment of the national statistical system.

Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the new strategic plan is a continuation of the PSJ 2021-2025 in the implementation of outlined strategies, programmes and activities, as well as serving as an initial coordination platform to ensure the implementation of an integrated, coordinated, and aligned strategic plan at all levels.

"It also aims to drive the formation of a disciplined, high-performing and results-oriented work culture, in line with the aspirations of the 13th Malaysia Plan (MP13) that emphasises the year of execution.

“PSJ DOSM 2026-2030 continues to focus on modernising the statistical system, empowering human capital, expanding access to data, strengthening data governance, and enhancing strategic cooperation with ministries, agencies and stakeholders," he said at the PSJ DOSM 2026-2030 Kick-Off Ceremony here today.

PSJ DOSM 2026-2030 maintains the vision of Leading Statistical Services for Universal Well-being and the motto Statistics as the Pulse of Life as a continuation of DOSM's long-term aspirations and the department's ongoing commitment as the leader of the national statistical system that supports national development and the well-being of the people through trusted official statistics.

Mohd Uzir said that DOSM's mission has also been renewed, which is to produce quality, timely, and reliable statistics to support data-driven decisions. This mission emphasises the transition of DOSM's role from merely being a producer of statistics to a key supporter of policy decisions, planning, and the implementation of national development.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, DOSM said the plan also strengthens its role as a leader in statistics at the international level, in line with Malaysia's achievement of ranking first globally for the first time in the biennial Open Data Inventory (ODIN) 2024/25 report issued by Open Data Watch (ODW), surpassing 197 other countries.

"This achievement marks a significant leap from the 67th position in the ODIN 2022/23 assessment. This achievement reflects the level of openness, quality, and usability of the country's official data recognised globally," said DOSM.

During the period of the strategic plan, the role of DOSM in international strategic cooperation with organisations such as the United Nations Statistical Commission and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, as well as other international strategic partners, will continue to be strengthened to ensure that Malaysian statistics remain relevant, comparable and competitive on the global stage.

DOSM has produced a total of 7,335 statistical publications from 2018 to 2025, and that number increased to 7,356 publications by January 2026, reflecting the continuity of providing quality, timely and reliable statistics.

In line with the agenda of digitising statistical services, DOSM has provided 37 digital services, including 12 data portals, 15 dashboard panels, and 10 interactive visuals to enhance user access and understanding of official statistics.

"Data requests through eStatistik recorded a total of 13,214 requests from 2021 to 2025, indicating a high level of reliance and use of official data among policymakers, researchers and stakeholders," added DOSM.
