KLIA NATIONAL GATEWAY LANDSCAPE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT COMPLETED WITHIN SIX MONTHS - NGA

SEPANG, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- The RM3 million National Gateway Landscape Development Project at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), which began last August, has been successfully completed within six months, said Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

Speaking at the project's inauguration at KLIA Terminal 1 today, Nga stated that the project is a strategic collaboration between the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), and the Ministry of Transport. The initiative aims to strengthen the nation's image through beautiful, organized landscape elements that reflect Malaysia's identity.

"The implementation of this development, with an allocation of RM3 million, was carried out as a 'fast-track project.' Completing it within six months saved time, energy, and development costs. This initiative not only supports KPKT’s efforts but also reflects the spirit of close cooperation between agencies under the MADANI Government through the concepts of #unityindiversity and #strongertogether," he said.

He noted that the KLIA landscape project is the first national gateway development implemented by KPKT under the theme "Harmony in Diversity," emphasising cultural wealth, heritage, racial diversity, as well as Malaysia’s natural resources and biodiversity.

Nga added that in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026), KPKT - through the National Landscape Department (JLN) - is committed to beautifying the country’s main gateways to create a positive first impression and increase appeal to international tourists.

According to him, the development area is divided into four main zones: Zone A (Vertical landscaping at Terminal 1 and 2 buildings); Zone B (Landscape development along parts of the terminal exit routes); Zone C (Known as the Wilderness Alignment) and Zone D (The "MADANI Gateway," featuring a "Welcome to Malaysia" sign equipped with solar lighting).

“The expedited implementation of this project allowed for savings in time, energy, and costs, while potentially increasing return on investment through a higher volume of foreign tourists,” he said.

He also said that the landscaping project not only enhances KLIA's image as the nation's premier gateway but also strengthens Malaysia's position as a top Asian tourism destination and contributes to national economic growth.

At the same time, Nga urged all state and local authorities to strive toward improving the image and identity of their respective administrative areas with organised landscaping that reflects the Malaysian identity.

“Protocol roads and main gateways can be beautified by planting a variety of attractive tropical plants that embody the Malaysian identity,” he added.
